Fifth House Ensemble announces its Sixth Annual Signature Series
Developed in collaboration with playwright Stan Richardson, with stories gathered in communities and classrooms throughout the city of Chicago.
Featuring works by Dimitri Shostakovich, Benjamin Britten, Samuel Barber, Jan Bach, Edgar Meyer, Clint Needham, John Elmquist, Jason Charney, Caleb Burhans and John Zorn.
As part of its 2012-2013 season, Fifth House Ensemble presents Caught, a community-based, narrative chamber music series. 5HE will lead workshops in neighborhoods throughout Chicago, asking participating children and adults to tell stories in response to a thematic prompt. These Chicagoan’s stories will serve as the basis for each concert in Caught; 5HE will pair these local tales with pieces of classical and modern chamber music and will enlist a diverse group of top-level, collaborative visual, dance, and theatre artists to create accompanying multimedia content. Through these concerts, 5HE involves communities in its signature pairing of stories and music and creates performances that reflect the fabric of Chicago’s neighborhoods.
All levels of this project will be documented via audio/video recording and surveys in order to maintain a work record and track participation over the course of the season. Each performance of the series is presented free of charge at Preston Bradley Hall, as well as at Chicago Park District venues: Austin Town Hall, Humboldt Park, and Washington Park. By performing each concert at multiple venues, 5HE and its collaborators will create a meaningful exchange among these communities over the course of the season.
