No musical training is required to enjoy this workshop! We explore a brief history of music notation, starting with Medieval neumes and culminating with graphic scores. In exploring how various components of sound (dynamics, articulation, melodic contour, range) can be represented by abstract shapes and colors, students then have the opportunity to create original graphic scores, performed live by Fifth House Ensemble musicians. This is a workshop that we've done with participants of all ages and disciplines, and lends itself very well to the virtual space.
