This interactive music improvisation workshop inspires students to see themselves as part of the natural world and as stewards of the Chicago River’s ecosystem. Engaging Deep Listening practice, Fifth House musicians guide students to hear and improvise with an immersive ecological soundscape. Engaging both the mind and the body, students will hear and identify the sounds of the Chicago River’s habitat and experiment with ways to imitate these sounds, thus becoming a part of the sonic ecosystem. By co-creating music with the sounds of nature, the session highlights the interdependence between humans and the natural world.
