Prize: The grand prize winner will receive $500, and will have his/her piece programmed and performed on our 2011-2012 series in downtown Chicago. A professional recording will be produced from the live performance. A special prize may be awarded to an outstanding local applicant (from IL, WI, or IN), and his/her piece will be programmed and performed on a non-series Fifth House concert in the Chicago area.
Rock Cover Programming: Fifth House is committed to presenting works new and old, and we can’t deny the presence of pop music in our collective ear. Over the last three years, we’ve experimented with covers including Muse, Queen, Korn, and Evanescence. We’re excited to see what young composers do with this challenge. Be creative! You can re-imagine an existing tune, or write an original. Extended techniques are perfectly acceptable as long as they are performable in a variety of halls. If you anticipate amplification, please specify how you would like this accomplished.
