Announcing 5HE's Newest Groupie, Maverick! -- Weekly Inspiration from Matt

Fifth House followers, we officially have the cutest picture ever on our blog.  Check out Maverick Eli Monroe, our horn player Matt's brand new son! Coincidentally, Matt's week to do the 5HE Weekly Inspiration Blog Post lined up with the birth of his first child.  Without further ado, I give you Matt's inspiration for the week (and many many years to come).  Check back at the end of each week for more inspiration.

It is with much inspiration that I write my first blog entry as the horn player of the Fifth House Ensemble.  In spite of knowing the majority of my new colleagues at 5HE for only a few months, I already feel a kinship to them and their vision that has been truly inspiring.  We began getting acquainted when they invited me to perform the John Harbison Quintet for Winds on two Black Violet shows this spring.  It is an exhilarating work that pushes the limits of the woodwind quintet repertoire.  It is with no less excitement that I anticipate my first official concert at the end of this month.

Running parallel to my 5HE trial process was the equally inspiring process of my wife’s pregnancy and the eventual birth of our son on August 7th.  Maverick Eli Monroe is pictured here in my hands at four days old.  The overwhelming sense of unpreparedness that preceded his birth has now been replaced by a euphoric inspiration for every undertaking in my life.  I hope you can hear a little of him in my playing on the Beethoven Septet at St. James Cathedral on the 30th.

If you’d like to meet a really cute kid come bug me for an introduction after the show! Fifth House Ensemble
