The Augmented Fifth - 12/3/2017

Sunday, December 3, 2017

We all know that October is considered the scariest month of the year with Halloween and all, but the truly terrifying discovery of the week is... it's already December.

I'll let you recover from that emotional blow. Just let me know when you're feeling better. Actually, we don't have all week, let's just get down to it.

Fifth House has been incredibly busy getting ready for a variety of performances in the upcoming weeks. Highlights include a house concert, a live performance on WFMT, and a performance of Dan Visconti's Living Language at the Old Town School of Folk Music.

RANDOM MUSIC WE’RE DIGGING THIS WEEK

Some family time had me exploring some old drum corps recordings this week. So here's a throwback to the 1975 Racine Kilties with a Maynard Ferguson tune.

And, for those of you who have any idea what I'm talking about at all, let's grab a drink sometime.

TOP 10

  1. Congratulations to all of the clients at Teen Living Programs on an awesome final showcase! We can't wait to get back to work in the Spring.

  2. Special thanks to Kim Flechaus for joining us! We couldn't do this without you!

  3. Eric is a champ and will be working with the ladies at Deborah's Place to get them ready for their final performance on December 8!

  4. Dan is a travel champion! I hope you enjoyed your 5 minutes in Chicago before getting back on a plane.

  5. Herine got close to an airplane that her husband built. Meanwhile, I'll keep staring at my two music degrees and waiting for something to happen...

  6. Danny found out that Cheetos are in fact vegetarian. The more you know...

  7. Grace sang some Kanye West lyrics to a group of judgmental teenagers. NO FEAR!

  8. Jessica took some notes. Thanks for making my life easier.

  9. Parker didn't have a heart attack watching college football. He only rapidly aged.

  10. Did you know that Deuce is a laptop wizard? He staved off a Windows update for longer than anyone else in history. You did it, Deuce!

YOUTUBE

Sometimes I wonder to myself if all of this performing would be easier if we had more instruments in the group. Then I watch videos like this and I realize that there are enough brass players in this ensemble. As an aside, please leave your pepper shakers at home when you come to see us play this week.

MEME

I don't always post general Classical Music memes, but when I do, it's about a piece I don't know all that well.

#FOOD

Let's be honest, we all do this once in awhile. After weeks of amazing food and capitalizing on an amazing Thanksgiving meal, it was bound to happen sooner or later. I'll do whatever I want to.

This is from... uh... Wendy's. yep...
