Together At Last!
As you might have noticed from the postings on our Facebook page yesterday, our guest artists for Caught: The Wide Open are finally in town, and we could not be more excited! On Sunday, Fifth House Ensemble welcomed Excelsior composer Caleb Burhans, as well as soprano Martha Cluver and ITSNOTYOUITSME (comprised of Caleb on electric violin and Grey Mcmurray on electric guitar), to Chicago from New York City! Caleb's Excelsior features Martha and ITSNOTYOUITSME in addition to our full ensemble. We started off the week on a yummy note by having dinner with Caleb, Martha, and Grey at the Ethiopian Diamond in Rogers Park. And yesterday, everyone came together in the rehearsal room for the first time! We've been rehearsing Caleb's piece, as well as the other music featured on The Wide Open program, John Zorn's The Temptations of Saint Anthony, another new commission for us, and Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 9, since November, but Monday was the first time we were able to experience the piece the way it was meant to be: with all of the musicians. And let me tell you, we could not be more pleased with or excited about the result of having Caleb, Martha, and Grey in the rehearsal room with us! It definitely blew me away, and I can't wait for our performances of this program (listed below)!!
I don't want to give away too many exciting details all at once, but I've left you with this video from yesterday's rehearsal. You can also see a few pictures I snapped on my phone during rehearsal on our Facebook page as well. More sneak peeks will be posted there over the next week or so, and you can also check out the Facebook event for more info!
