Drew's Reflections on Caught: The Woods
Wow, it's hard to believe that it's been just over a week since our final performance of Caught: The Woods! And can I tell you that since then, life has definitely not slowed down! Here at Fifth House Ensemble, we're still plugging away preparing for our upcoming projects. We all plan to take a little time off this week to reflect and give thanks, and of course celebrate with our families and stuff our faces! Anyways, Drew sent me this blog post which includes some reflections on Caught: The Woods. In this season of thanks, I'm definitely grateful to be working with such wonderful and hard working artists like Drew, and I second his sentiment: I can't wait for the next one!
Preparing and performing our first run of concerts for our series this year, Caught, was a blast and left me with not a few memorable moments. Performing in Humboldt Park, we had a number of our 5th grade residency participants show up. This one boy, whose own dramatic performance had happened just a few days before, came up to me afterwards, gave me a firm handshake, and then said in his deepest man-voice with a furrowed brow, "don't give up the good work on your instrument." I need a stern reminder every now and again. Oh, and then there was the time our wonderfully fabulous actress/puppeteer, Emmy Bean, forgot her puppets, ran around like a madwoman for 5 minutes, made newer, better puppets, gave a great show, went home, ate ice cream and cried. And then there was the time the dance instructor told us to start where the viola had a screeching sound, which she even demonstrated: "wchreeeeee!!!" Priceless. Not to mention the countless number of times Carole threatened to punch me in the nose. Can't wait for the next one!
Disclaimer: all threats of nose punches are empty. But sshhhh, don't tell Drew!
