WELCOME TO THE THUNDERDOME! (Issue 15)

We are about to embark on quite an exciting few weeks here at Fifth House Ensemble with a variety of performances, education work, and touring! Here at "the blog", we're also looking forward to some exciting changes that I spent entirely too long making ambiguous for this week's issue.

In other news, the Olympics have begun so for the duration of the games, we'll be replacing our Top 10 into the first annual Fifth House Ensemble Medal Ceremonies. Be sure to keep track of your favorite musician's medal count!

WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT

Of Time and Space - Written by Parker Nelson

We had a great time bringing our Of Time and Space show to Goethe Elementary this week. We were especially thrilled to see one young girl in the front sporting her NASA shirt and just being all around our perfect audience member.

Something that we've always done at these shows, but rarely speak about is the talk back we are able to have with the students when the show is over. After bringing out the painting done by Angela Bermudez (which always brings down the house, btw), Fifth House musicians stand at the side of the painting to answer questions but certainly not to keep the children from rubbing their hands all over the artwork. This week had a bunch of great questions and funny comments from the kids. One such interaction I had was as follows:

Girl: How much is that painting worth if you were going to sell it?

Me: Well I don't know but we aren't going to be selling it because we love it to much!

Girl: *Makes literally this face* -_-

Girl: But I want it.

Just another story of youth transformed by Fifth House Ensemble Education! But in all seriousness, we had a great turn out and it's always wonderful to hear the reactions from the crowd when they hear music they recognize or watch as Angela's painting video helps to bring what they're hearing to life.

Special thanks as always to Luciano from Ravinia for making these performances happen, we couldn't do it without you!

WHERE IN THE FIFTH IS ?

THIS JUST IN: Fifth House Ensemble has received official word that a new member will be joining our ranks within the week. After months of coaxing, we have secured one of the world's foremost adventurers to come out of retirement and join us on our travels across Chicago, the United States, and the world! Be on the lookout for our new addition next week as he shows you behind the scenes photos that were formerly only viewable by our musicians and staff...

RANDOM MUSIC WE’RE DIGGING THIS WEEK

Are you simply exhausted of acoustic swing music? Like seriously, yeah the Charleston is awesome and all, but it is not 1921 anymore. It's your lucky day guys and dolls, Caravan Palace is here to hotsy your totsy. Originally from Paris, Caravan Palace has made a pretty huge impression on the world of electronic music within the past few years. Check out the lead track from their latest album, "Lone Digger".

Next step is for them to answer my emails about a possible collaboration with Fifth House. Don't be a dewdropper and listen to these darb berries.
