Issue 17
Another week, another Journey LIVE show. We're still here in San Francisco and I'd be lying if I said I'm not writing this in my hotel bed waiting for Eric to wake up. Sad to be leaving such a great city so soon but I made sure to bury a bag of change under the Golden Gate Bridge so that I can dig it up and feel like a pirate when we come back to perform Journey at San Jose State in April.
Thanks to all fo the SFCM Pre-College and Conservatory musicians for joining us onstage last night! Also, thanks for putting up with our personalities too. That can be a lot to handle, especially me.

WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT
Journey LIVE with SFCM - Written by Herine Koschak
We had our first-ever experience performing Journey LIVE as a side-by-side show! Engaging a singer, string, piano, percussion and wind students from San Francisco Conservatory and its pre-college division, we loved the richness of the symphonic sound with the extra players. Also joining us on stage was fresh inc alum and harpist Jennifer Ellis, whose presence was a delightful surprise! Jennifer is on the faculty of the pre-college and a fabulous player.
Journey LIVE is one of the most daunting experiences to rehearse with new players, as the score is responsive to live game play. This is not a skill anyone will have had prior experience doing, and our young players rose to the occasion in a big way. Also of note is the MEETING OF AUSTIN WINTORY AND DAN VISCONTI, a moment years in the making. We've had a long-running joke that their missed connections were proofs to each that the other doesn't actually exist in real life, so it was a momentous occasion!
WHERE IN THE FIFTH IS UNCLE TRAVELING MATT?
From the journal of Uncle Traveling Matt:
"Just when I thought the Journey would end in Ohio, I was boarding a flying contraption to the city of San Francisco. There I found that some younger travelers from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music Pre-College program also joined our cause. From what I've come to understand, this is the first time anyone outside of the Fifth House Ensemble has joined us. What a brave bunch of fellows! The trip wasn't all work, and I did get a chance to marvel at this bridge I found. Turns out it was quite famous. That's all for now, I'll check in again next week. "
RANDOM MUSIC WE’RE DIGGING THIS WEEK
Do you ever listen to a song on accident and realize that you haven't listened to it in years? As you can imagine, that is exactly what happened to me with this song. I first heard this on a mix CD that my host-brother from Germany made me and I had totally forgotten about it until I was exploring the unknowns of my music library on the plane to SF. Sometimes that much downtime produces some cool stuff.
